ANERDAM WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Anerdam wildlife sanctuary is nestled along southwestern Satpura ranges in Shirpur Tehsil of the Dhule District in Maharashtra. It was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1986.

Flora
Vegetation type: mostly scrub forests
Major tree species: Babul, Palas, Bel, Khair, Terminenalia, Salaia, Hiwar etc.
Major shrub species: Kusali, Bhuri, Solanium Giganteum, Vitex Nigundo, Kusal, etc.

Fauna
Flagship species: Monitor Lizard
Other species: Barking Deer, Jungle Cat, Porcupine, Hare and Chikara.

Avian fauna
Resident birds: Egrets, Owls, Qualis, Peafowls, Partridges, Herons, Spot Bills, Cormorants, Eagle Hamers, etc.
Migratory birds: Stokes, Brahmini Ducks, Cranes and many Waders.

How to reach Aurangabad airport about 215 km away is the closest airport. Nardona railway station on the Western Railway is about 40 km and Chailsgaon railway station on Mumbai-Bhusawal route is about 125 km. Anerdam wildlife sanctuary is situated on Bombay-Agra national Highway in Shirpur. The closest bus terminals are at Dhule (50 km) and Shirpur (15 km away).

Tourist Information
The visitors can stay in the Irrigation Bungalow at dam site with prior booking. PWD Bungalow (2 suites) at Shirpur and Forest Houses (2 suites) at Chopada and Rohini also provide quality accommodation options.

The visitors are required to strictly follow the rules and regulations of the wildlife sanctuary. Do not harm or disturb the wildlife of the sanctuary in any manner. Cooking, littering, making noise and swimming inside the reserve is punishable with fine. No pets, alcoholic drinks, inflammable items and weapons are allowed inside the sanctuary.

Wild animals can be best sighted during the summer months. Winter is the best time to spot the migratory birds in the sanctuary. For further queries or arrangements the tourists can contact the Dy. Conservator of Forests, stationed at Aurangabad.
