BAGDARA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Bagdara Wildlife Sanctuary was set up in the year 1978 for the conservation of blackbuck and other
endangered wildlife species of the state of Madhya Pradesh. The sanctuary is bound by the famous Son
River in the south.
Flora
Vegetation cover: orchids, northern dry mixed deciduous forest and mango groves forests.
Trees: kahua, mahua, khair, palas, karounda, birhul, jamalghota, saja, mohtain dokergel, dudhdbel,
bhurbhusi, etc.
Fauna
Flagship species: Blackbuck
Other species: Tiger, Chinkara, Sambar, Hyenas, Panther, Blue bull, Cheetal, Wild boar, etc.
Getting There
Closest railway station to Bagdara Wildlife Sanctuary is at Rewa and Beohari Junction (about 38 km
away). Nearest airport is at Khajuraho. Sidhi Bus Station is the nearby bus terminal to the sanctuary.
Tourist Information
Two suites and a forest rest house are available for accommodation within the sanctuary. The chief
mode of transport within the sanctuary is the diesel vehicles or petrol vehicles, which should not be
more than five years old.
Rock shelters, rock caves and rock paintings pertaining to the stone period, located within the sanctuary,
are interesting spots for visitors. Animal feeding and teasing are strictly prohibited. There are no
eateries within the sanctuary. So carry your own food and water inside the park. However, littering is
not allowed inside the forest.
