BAISIPALLI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Baisipalli Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the state of Odisha to the south of Satkosia Gorge Sanctuary and co-ends with the Baisipalli Reserve Forest. It is nestled along the edges of Mahanadi River on Eastern Ghats and is a part of the Baisipalli Reserve Forest. The sanctuary’s name is derived from the presence of 22 settlements within its span, which serve as revenue villages. Baisipalli Sanctuary is a part of the Eastern Plateau Province, Eastern Ghat sub-division and Deccan Peninsula Bio-Geographical region. Along with the Satkosia Gorge Wildlife Sanctuary, Baisipalli Sanctuary is also a portion of Satkosia Tiger Reserve.

Flora
Vegetation cover: mixed deciduous forests and riverine forest.
Major trees: Sal and many others.

Fauna
Mammals: Elephants, tigers, leopards, chousingha, bears, spotted deer and sambar deer
Reptiles: Indian Python, King Cobra, etc.

Avian Faun
The sanctuary is home to several aquatic birds, residential and migratory birds.

Getting there
Nearest aerodrome to Baisipalli Wildlife Sanctuary is in Bhubaneswar about 150 km away. The closest railway station is at Khudra (80 km) and Bhubaneswar. Khurda-Bolangir highway or National Highway 224 passes near Baisipalli Sanctuary.

Tourist Information
Tourists can avail accommodation at the forest rest house at Kaunria with prior reservation. Natural trail, trekking and bird viewing are popular tourist activities in the region. Banigochha-Benapata-Gorsa and Buguda-Sapapathara are major trekking paths in the wildlife sanctuary. Carry enough provision of food and water during your trekking trips. Always follow the designated path and do not venture into unknown paths.
Deer Park in the outskirts of the sanctuary at Kuanria is an ideal educational and recreational centre for the tourists. Ladukeswar temple (Saranakul), Nayagarh Dakhinakali Temple (Nayagarh), Odgaon Raghunath Temple (Nayagarh), Lord Shiva Temple (Dutikeswar), MIP (Dam) at Kuanria, etc are other famous tourist destinations near the sanctuary.
