BHENSROD GARH WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Bhensrod Garh Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled along the eastern bank of the River Chambal in the princely state of Rajasthan. It is located about 55km west of the Kota city.
Notification: Wildlife Sanctuary in 1983.
Flora
Forest type: Dry deciduous and scrub forest.
Tree and plant species: wild roses, bamboo, orchids, ferns and varieties of medicinal plants.
Fauna
Sloth Bear, Spotted Deer, Jackal, Chinkara, Leopard, Deer Fox, Fox, Hyena and others.
Getting there
The Kota railway station is the nearest railhead to Bhensrod Garh Wildlife Sanctuary and is located on the main Delhi–Mumbai railway line. The nearest bus station is situated at Kota on the Bundi Road. Kota is well connected to Chittorgarh (6 hours), Ajmer (6 hours), Jaipur (6 hours), Udaipur (6 hours), Bikaner (12 hours) and Jodhpur (11 hours) via National Highway No.12. The nearest airport is at Jaipur (about 239km away).
Tourist Information
Tourists can find standard accommodation in Kota and in the nearby areas of Chittorgarh district. The water bodies inside this protected reserve are the best places to spot different animals and birds. During wildlife spotting, remain silent and avoid making any noise. Do comply with all the forest guidelines and read them carefully before entering the sanctuary. Respect the privacy of the wild animals and keep safe distance from them. Wear khaki or olive green clothes that aptly blend with the forest environment.
Bhensrod Garh sanctuary is home to several archaeological remains. Gaipar Nath Mahadev and Bhensrod Garh Fort are popular historical places of interest that are worth visiting. Prior permission is required to visit the Bhensrod Garh.
