BINSAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Nestled along the Jhandi Dhar hills in Uttarakhand, Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated about 30 km away from the Almora town. The sanctuary was setup in 1988 and is named after the Binsar city, which was a prehistoric summer capital city of the Chand Kings during 7th and 8th centuries AD.

Flora
Vegetation covers: Alpine forests along with Pteridophytes, Bryophytes and patches of hanging mosses.
Trees and plants Species: Oak, Kaphal, Banjh, Deodar, Pine, Lyonie ovaliflolia, Seder, Rhododendron arborecun, etc.

Fauna
Leopard, Black Bear, Goral, Musk deer, Langur, Pine Marten, Porcupine, Red Fox, Serow, Flying Squirrel, etc.

Avian Fauna
Chestnut Bellied Rocktrach, Magpies, Kalij Pheasant, Chestnut Bellied Nuthatch, Oriental Turtle Dove, Eurasian Jay, etc.

Getting there
Closest airport is at Pantnagar. From here the tourists will have to reach Binsar through Haldwani by road. Nearby railhead is at Kathgodam. From Kathgodam one has to reach Binsar through roadway. From Delhi the road route is Moradabad to Haldwani to Binsar. Some other road routes are Kathgodam via Ranikhet (133 km), Kathgodam via Khairana (90 km), etc.

Tourist Information
The entry point to Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated nearly 22 km away from Amore side. Jungle KMVN resort, located about 10 km from this entry gate can be availed for staying with prior booking. No electricity is available in the Jungle KMVN resort due to restriction with the forest area. Several hotels, resorts and home stay options are available in the surrounding villages for staying.
Bird watching, nature walk, cycling and trekking are chief tourist activities here. 17th century Binsar Mahadev temple, zero point view tower or the Zhandi Dhar and the sunset view point are must-see tourist spots of the sanctuary.
