BIR GURDIALPURA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Bir Gurdialpura Wildlife Sanctuary is located approximately 45 km from the Patiala city and about
15 km from Samana, in the state of Punjab. It is nestled on the left side of Nabha-Bhadson-
Gobindgarh Road. It was established as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1952. Prior to India’s
Independence, the sanctuary used to be a hunting reserve of the former rulers of Patiala city.
Flora
Forest type: northern tropical arid mixed deciduous forest and dry scrubs and dry grasslands. Major tree species: Teak, Karir, Imli, Kikar, Khajoor, Beri, Karonda, Shisham, Drek, Mesquite, Jamun and Bamboo
Fauna
Wolf, sambhar, wild boar, nilgai, jackal, hog deer, jungle cat, otter, rhesus monkey, python, hare, pangolin and river dolphin
Avian Fauna
Rose ringed parakeet, red jungle fowl, spotted owlet, grey partridge, black partridge, peafowl, dove, etc
How to Reach
The closest airport and railway station to Bir Gurdialpura Wildlife Sanctuary is located at Chandigarh. On reaching Patiala city the visitors can hire public buses, taxis or auto rickshaws to reach the sanctuary. Bir Gurdialpura Sanctuary is situated on the road that links Patiala and Shatrana via Samana and so can be easily reached from different parts of the states through roadway.

Bird spotting and photography and nature trail are major past times of the tourists in the region.
