BOR TIGER RESERVE - Maharashtra

Bor Tiger Reserve, situated close to Hingi in the district of Wardha in Maharashtra, is believed to be amongst the smallest tiger reserves in the country.
The total coverage area of the Bor wildlife sanctuary is only 121.1 sq km. So therefore, in terms of its size it does not qualify to be notified as a tiger reserve. However, this sanctury with Tadoba Tiger Reserve to its south and Pench Tiger Reserve to its north forms a crucial part of the tiger corridor. It helps in fostering critical genetic exchange between the tiger population in and around the areas. It is for this reason this sanctuary, along with the New Bor Wildlife Sanctuary and an added area of about 16 sq km has been declared a crucial core tiger habitat in the year 1970.
