CHANDRA PRABHA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Established in 1957, Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary is situated between Naugarh & Chakia in Uttar Pradesh. River Karmnasha and Chandra Prabha flow through the sanctuary.
Flora
Forest cover: arid deciduous forest
Plants and trees: Amaltas, Mahua, Koraiya, Ber, Tendua and Saagun.
Fauna
Leopard, blackbuck, panther, nilgai, hyena, porcupine, sambar, Indian gazelle, 'sehi' bear, wild boar and others.
About three Asiatic lions were introduced in this sanctuary in 1958. By 1969 the lion population was around 11. However, in the following years the lion population started dwindling and finally they disappeared from the forest. There are plans to revive the lion project once again in the sanctuary.

Getting there
Closest bus terminals are situated at Naugarh (27km) and Chakia (25km).
Chandauli railway station (54 km), Varanasi junction (73km) and Mughalsarai junction (56 km) are the nearest railway stations.
Lal Bahadur Shashtri International airport about 85 km in Varanasi is the closest airport to Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary.
Tourist Information
A Guest House of the Forest Department located close to the Raj Dari waterfall can be availed for staying with prior booking. No other accommodation options are available inside the sanctuary. Alternatively tourists can find accommodation in different hotels in Varanasi.
Chandra Prabha Dam, Dev Dari waterfall and Raj Dari waterfall are popular places of interest in and around the sanctuary. Library and Resource centre and the Nature Interpretation Centre of the forest are also worth visiting. A small canteen of the Forest Department, located within the sanctuary close to Raj Dari waterfall, is open to the general tourists for food.
