D'ERING MEMORIAL WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
D'ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary or Daying Ering WildLife Sanctuary is situated towards the
south-east of Pasighat town at East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh. The area was first
established in the year 1976 as Lali Wildlife Sanctuary. It was later rechristened to D'ering
Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary in the year 1986. The sanctuary is named after a venerated social
reformer and politician of Arunachal Pradesh, Dr. Daying Ering. Daying Ering WildLife
Sanctuary was primarily set-up for the preservation of the Fresh water crocodiles or Mugger
Crocodile.
Flora
The prominent vegetation cover is the floodplain grasslands. Endemic tree species are cotton
tree, East Indian almond, Elephant Apple, Bonesets, etc.
Fauna
Mugger Crocodile, tiger, elephant, hispid hare, hog deer, lispid bear, wild pig, etc.
Avian Fauna
White-winged wood duck, Bengal florican, Black-breasted parrot bill, Raptors, Jerdon’s Babbler,
Swamp Francolin, Indian Skimmer and so on.
Getting there
The closest airport is at Lilabari (Tezpur) and at Pasighat about 36 km away (Pasighat airport).
The closest railhead is at Murkongselek and the nearest railway station is in Tezpur. Nearby bus
terminal is at Pasighat town (about 16 km away). There are also regular bus services from
Itanagar and Guwahati to Pasighat. Ferry services are also available from Dibrugarh to Pasighat.
Tourist information
There are no accommodation facilities inside the sanctuary. However, quality lodges, rest
houses, hotels and Inspection Bungalow are available at Pasighat. For prior booking, the visitors
have to contact the Divisional Forest Officer at Pasighat.
An Inner Line Permit is mandatory for all individuals seeking to enter East Siang. Since Daying
Ering WildLife Sanctuary is located on a hilly terrain, the tourists are advised to wear proper
boots and comfortable clothing.
