DARLAGHAT WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Darlaghat Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Himachal Pradesh, about 35km away from the city of
Shimla. The sanctuary was established in the year 1974.
Flora
Forest type: temperate and sub-tropical forests
Trees: oak and chir pine.
Fauna
Leopard , Barking Deer, Sambar, Black Bear, Goral, Leopard Cat , Porcupine, Wild Boar, Civet, etc.
Avian Fauna
Kaleej, black Partridge, Chukor, Red Jungle fowl, Tree pie, Koklas Pheasant and others.
Getting there
The nearest railhead and airport are located in Shimla. By road Darlaghat Wildlife Sanctuary can be
approached through Shimla–Bilaspur State Highway from Shimla and other parts of the state.
Tourist Information
Staying options for the incoming tourists are available at Darlaghat and Piplughat with prior
reservations. One entry point to Darlaghat sanctuary is situated on the Shimla–Bilaspur State
Highway. For queries or any help visitors can contact the Range forest Officer or the DFO, Wildlife,
stationed at Shimla.
Trekking, rare bird spotting and nature trails are popular pastimes of the tourists here. Several eco-
treks are being organised by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation for the
visitors. Saryanjh-Bulia- Bhaled (approx. 16km) and Sanjhan-Bari (approx. 5km) are popular trekking
tracts of the sanctuary.
Piplughat, Harsinga Tibba, Baradeo Temple, Dhundan town, Kunihar, etc. are some of the famous
nearby tourist spots that are worth exploring.
