DEBRIGARH WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Bargarh District of Odisha. It comprises
Lohara and Debrigarh Reserved Forests of the Barapahad hills. It was established in the year
1985 and forms a part of the popular Hirakud Dam.
Flora
Vegetation cover: mixed arid deciduous forest
Trees: Sal, Dhaura, Aanla, Bija, Asana, etc.
Fauna
Bison, Leopard, Sloth Bear, Royal Bengal tiger, Nilgai, Gaur, Antelopes, Spotted Deer, Monitor
Lizard, Freshwater Turtle, Mugger Crocodile and many more.
Avian Fauna
Crested Serpent Eagle, Chousingha, peafowl, woodpecker, vulture and many species of
migratory birds.
Getting There
The nearest bus terminal and railway station are located at Sambalpur, approximately 40 km
away. Another closest train terminal to the sanctuary is located at Hirakud (about 27 km).
Keonjhar-Sambalpur (NH-6) and Dhenkanal-Sambalpur (NH-42) passes close to the forest.
Raipur and Bhubaneswar are the closest airports to Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary.
Tourist Information
Visitors can find proper lodgings at the Forest Rest Houses in Dechua and Dhodrokusum.
Tourist Cottage at Chaurasimal can also be availed for staying.
Natural trails, trekking, safaris and boating on the Hirakud Reservoir are the popular activities
for the tourists.
Hirakud dam, deer park (Motijharan), Samaleswari temple (Sambalpur), Ghanteswari temple,
Leaning temple of Lord Bimaleswar (Huma), etc are some of the popular tourist spots around
the sanctuary.
