FAMBONG LHO WILDLIFE

Fambong Lho Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the state of Sikkim, about 25km from Gangtok. It is located in the vicinity of the famous Rumtek Monastery. The sanctuary was established in the year 1984.

Vegetation cover: Broadleaved Evergreen forest, Fir-Hemlock-Oak forest, Sub-alpine Rhododendron forest, etc

Getting there
The nearest airport and bus terminal are located at Gangtok. The tourists can choose to hire taxis or private vehicles from Gangtok to reach Fambong Lho Wildlife Sanctuary. A short hike of about 20 minutes from the Pangthang Forest Nursery will take the visitors to the wildlife sanctuary’s entrance.

Tourist Information
Log houses at Tumin and Golitar are available for accommodation for the tourists with prior booking. Watchtowers at Tinjure, Alubari and Sang tsokha enable the visitors to have a panoramic view of the sanctuary. Bird watching, nature photography, nature trail and trekking are popular tourist activities. There are many trekking trails for the trekkers. Tinjure at about 7000 ft is the highest peak of the Sanctuary. From here one can have a 360 degrees view of the Himalayas. Wear warm, comfortable clothes and strong shoes while going for trekking trips. Always carry enough snacks and drinking water along with you. Follow the designated trails and do not go into any unknown paths. Dispose your waste responsibly and do not hurt, annoy or tease the wildlife in any manner.

All the visitors to the sanctuary are required to obtain special permits from the Forest Department for entering the Fambong Lho Sanctuary. The visitors have to hire guides for visiting the wildlife sanctuary.
