Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary

Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at Karbi Anglong district in Assam. It was conferred a wildlife sanctuary status in the year 1952. The sanctuary is so called because it contains a hot water spring, which in the local language means ‘Garampani’.

Flora
Forest cover: tropical semi-evergreen forest.
Trees: Hilikha, Poma, Uriiyam, Bhelu, Hollong, Nahar, Holokh, etc.

Fauna
Tiger, clouded leopard, barking deer, Asian elephant, leopard cat, hoolock gibbon, Python, mongoose, civet, Monitor lizards, pangolin, golden langurs, etc.

Avian fauna
Green imperial pigeon, minivet, racket-tailed drongo, kingfisher, jungle myna, blackhooded oriole, barbet, brown fish owl, Kaleej pheasant, etc.

Getting There
Dimapur airport in Nagaland (55 km) and Jorhat Airport (85 km) are the nearest airports to Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary. The closest railhead is the Furkuting rail Junction (about 20 km away). The sanctuary can also be accessed by private vehicles and regular bus services from Golaghat (35 km), Kaziranga (45 km), Diphu (92 km) and Guwahati (330 km).

Tourist Information
Two Inspection Bunglows at Karbi Anglong and Golaghat town are available for accommodation for the incoming visitors. The tourists can, alternatively, opt to lodge at the circuit house and other hotels at Golaghat. Different budget lodges are available at Kohora.
The sanctuary’s hot water spring, different orchids, waterfalls, Neghereting Shiva Temple, Nambor Sanctuary and Kaziranga National Park are some of the must-see tourist spots in and around the sanctuary.
