GUDAVI BIRD SANCTUARY

Gudavi Bird Sanctuary is situated in Gudavi in Sorab taluk of Shimoga district in the state of Karnataka. It was established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1993.

How to Reach There
Gudavi Bird Sanctuary is situated on the Banavasi Road and can be easily reached from different parts of the state. Nearest major bus terminal is at Sirsi. The road route from Sirsi is Sirsi - Banavasi – Gudavi. Nearest airports are located at Mangalore (270 km) and Bangalore (375 km). Closest railway station is at Shimoga, nearly 115 km away. The visitors can choose to first reach Soraba by bus and then hire auto to reach Gudavi sanctuary.

Tourist Information
No staying options are available within the bird sanctuary. The tourists can find quality accommodations at Shimoga or Sagar. For accommodation reservations, one can get in touch with the Range Forest Officer, stationed at Kargal.
There are two entry points to Gudavi sanctuary. Visitors coming in vehicles will be allowed to enter from one particular gate only. They will be allowed to park their vehicles inside the sanctuary, some 700m from the entry point and then walk along the pond. An elevated platform and 4 to 5 watch towers have been constructed along the ponds to enable the visitors to have a proper view of the birds along the water body. Picnic, trekking, bird watching and photography are popular activities of the visitors in the bird sanctuary. Jog Falls is a popular tourist spot located around the sanctuary.
