GUMTI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Nestled in the south-eastern edge of Tripura, Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary is considered to be the second sanctuary of the state. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1988 and is named after the famous Gumti River.

Flora
Primarily botanical, medical and therapeutically important species of flora.

Fauna
Tiger, Indian elephants, bison, sarow, wild goat, sambar and many others.

Avian Fauna
Darter, Lesser Adjutant, Jungle Fowls, Pea Fowls, etc.

Getting there
Sigervill airport in Agartala is approximately 100 km away from the sanctuary.

The nearest railheads are located at Dharama Nagar and Kumarghat. From Udaipur, tourists can hire taxis and buses to reach the station.

By road one can go from Agartala to Matarbari by bus. From there Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary can be reached via Amarpur-Jatanbari or via Ambassa and Gandachara route. Tripura State Transport Corporation bus services connect Tripura with major cities of the North-East.

Tourist Information
Accommodation within the Gumti sanctuary is very scanty. Both private and government hotels and lodges are available for accommodation at Udaipur and Agartala.

An enormous water reservoir covering an area of about 300 sq km is located near the sanctuary. This reservoir is an ideal spot to view many migratory and resident birds.
