Indravati National Park is an important abode of the endangered wild buffaloes. It is the only tiger
reserve in Chhattisgarh. The total area of the park is about 2799.08 km 2 .
About the park
The park is situated in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. It was deemed a national park in
1981 and in 1983 it was declared a Tiger Reserve under the popular Project Tiger of India. The park is
named after the famous Indravati River which forms a northern boundary to the park.
Flora
Tropical moist and dry deciduous are the prime vegetation covers of the park. The prominent floras
of the reserve include Lendia, Teak, Sal, Semal, Jamun, Mahua, Semal, Ber, Haldu and Bamboo.
Wildlife
Wild Asian buffalo, Leopards and Tigers are the main attraction for the tourists here. The other
animals that are found here are Black Buck, Indian Bison, Nilgai, Dholes, Striped Hyenas, Indian
Spotted Chevrotain, Indian Muntjac, Rhesus Monkeys, Flying Squirrel and Pangolins. The reptile
species of the reserve include Indian Chameleon, Monitor Lizard, Indian Rock Python, Russell's Viper,
Common Krait, Crocodile, etc. Indravati National Park is also home to several birds such as Hill
Maina.
Reaching there
The main entry to the park is the Kutrue village. Kutrue is well connected with the important parts of
Chhattisgarh through Jagdalpur-Bhopalpattanam road and Kutrue link road. The nearest railhead is
at Jagdalpur (the district headquarters of Bastar), which is located 168 km away. The nearest airport
is at Raipur (486 km).
