JAISAMAND WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Rajasthan, about 45 km from Udaipur. It was declared a
wildlife sanctuary in the year 1955. Jaisamand Sanctuary is situated in the vicinity of Jaisamand (or
Dhevar) Lake, which is perceived to be the second largest artificial lake in the continent of Asia.

Panther, cheetal leopard, antelopes, hyena, chinkara, jungle cat, wild boar, fox and wolf

Indian robin, white breasted kingfisher, white browed fantail, cattle egret, Indian grey hornbill,
common hawk cuckoo, Asian paradise flycatcher, etc.
Getting there
Dabok Airport at Udaipur, about 24 km, is the closest airport. The nearest railway and bus terminals
to Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary are situated in Udaipur. One can easily get taxis or private vehicles
from near the airport and the railway station to reach the sanctuary. Through roadways the
sanctuary can be also easily approached from Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Jaipur via Udaipur.
Tourist Information
Two forest lodges, located within the sanctuary, are available for accommodation with prior
reservation. The tourist can also opt to stay at forest lodges, hotels and guest houses in the city of
Udaipur. There are two restaurants inside the sanctuary. However, it is always advisable to carry
your own food while visiting the wildlife sanctuary. Jeep is the best way to explore through the
natural reserve. Jeep safari, bird watching, trekking and nature trail are major pastimes of the
tourists.
Permission has to be obtained from the forest officials for entering the Jaisamand sanctuary. The
best place to view the turtles and the crocodiles are in the Jaisamand Lake. Visitors can hire the local
