KAIS WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Kais Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Himachal Pradesh, along the Parvati Valley. It is located about
16km from Kullu city and around 522km away from Delhi.

Flora
Maple, Deodar, Fir, Cedar, Cheed, Poplar, Spruce, Oak, Walnut, Birch, Alpine and Rhododendron scrub
forest.
Fauna
Flagship species: Himalayan Black Bear and Brown Bear.
Other species: Leopard, Musk Deer, Snow Leopard, Barking Deer, Himalayan Tahr, Hyena, etc.
Avian Fauna
Peacock, Pheasant, Western Tragopan, Cheer, Mynas, Hornbill, Himalayan Monal and others.
Getting there
Jogindernagar railway station is the nearest railhead to Kais Wildlife Sanctuary, about 125km away.
Shimla, Pathankot and Chandigarh are other nearby railheads. Chandigarh is the most preferred of the
three as regular bus services are available from here to Kullu.
The closest airports are located at Kullu and Shimla (about 270km). The sanctuary is also well connected
by roadways to Patiala, Ambala, Chandigarh, Bilaspur, Ropar and Delhi, etc. Frequent tourist cabs and
state transport buses are available from these places to Kais sanctuary.
Tourist Information
Accommodation facilities are available for the tourists in and around the sanctuary. Trekking, nature
walk and wildlife photography are popular tourist activities in the forest. The topography of the reserve
is hilly and uneven. Hence, wear comfortable clothes and strong shoes while visiting this sanctuary.
It is better to carry your own food and water provisions while visiting the sanctuary. Do not litter the
forest and avoid feeding or teasing the wild animals.
