KAMLANG WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the south-eastern region of Lohit District of Arunachal Pradesh. The wildlife sanctuary is named after the River Kamlang, which flows through the sanctuary before joining the famous river Brahmaputra.

Flora
Dhuna, Amari, Gamari, Hillika, Bamboo, Cane, Hollong White Meranti, etc. are found here.

Fauna
Tiger, hoolock gibbon, leopard, red panda, capped langur, takin and many more

Avian Fauna
Smew, Wreathed Hornbills, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hornbills, ducks, etc.

Getting there
The closest airport is at Dibrugarh. Pawan Hans Helicopter Service is available from Namsai and Tezu to Itanagar. Regular bus and taxi services are available from Wakro to Tezu and Namsai. The nearby railhead is at Tinsukia in Assam. Nearest major bus terminals are available at Tinsukia abd Tezu.

Tourist information
Several good quality circuit houses, tourist lodges and hotels are available in the vicinity of Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary. The government PWD rest house located near the sanctuary can also be availed for staying with prior booking. Luxury resorts and hotels are available at Wakro.

Trekking, nature trail, adventure mountaineering and bird watching are the major tourist activities in the region. During excursions or animal sightings the tourists are prohibited from feeding and chasing the animals. Just follow the designated tracts and refrain from venturing to unknown paths or areas. Swimming and fishing in the water bodies of the sanctuary are also not allowed. Carry enough mosquito repellents along with you.

The incoming tourists will have to obtain an Inner Line Permit from the Divisional Forest Officer, stationed at Miao, for entering the Lohit district.
