KATARNIAGHAT WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Hastinapur Sanctuary is spread over Ghaziabad, Bijnor, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar districts of Uttar Pradesh. It is spread over an area of about of 2073 sq km. It was established in the year 1986.

Flora
Arid tropical riverine forest, arid mixed deciduous forest mixed with patches of arid grasslands and scrubs.

Fauna
Leopard, Sambar, Swamp Deer, Blue Bull, Gharial, Hyena, Civet, Sloth bear, Gangetic Dolphins, Alligators, etc.

Avian Fauna
Sarus Crane, Barbet, Painted Stork, White Necked Stork, Peacocks, Kingfisher, Bulbul, Jungle Owlet, Woodpecker and others.

Getting there
Hastinapur Sanctuary is well connected to important cities and town of the state through National Highway 45. Indira Gandhi International Airport, approximately 110km away in Delhi, is the nearest airport to the Sanctuary. The closest railway station is at Meerut, about 30km away.

Tourist Information
PWD Inspection house and Forest Rest House situated within the forest offer comfortable staying facilities to the incoming visitors. Different lodges and hotels in the nearby towns and villages can be availed for staying.

The region along the Ganga River between Bijnor and Haridwar are best places to spot Gangetic dolphins and alligators. During your visit to the sanctuary wear clothes that are comfortable and have green or khaki shades, so that it easily camouflages with the forest background. Avoid flash photography or make any form of noise inside the forest reserve.

Shukdev Temple, Goddess Shakambhari Temple, Mukteshwar Dham, Akshayavat, Nishiya Ji, Lord Shankar Temple, Victoria Park, etc are some the famous tourist spots located in the vicinity of Hastinapur Sanctuary.

Ideal time to visit: between January and June.
