KELADEVI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Keladevi Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Rajasthan, approximately 25km away from Karauli city. It is
located in the proximity of the Madhya Pradesh border and is nestled along the hilly regions of
Aravalli range. The sanctuary has been named after the famous Kela Devi Temple.
Notification: Wildlife Sanctuary in 1983.
Flora
Khair, Dhok and many medicinal herbs and scrubs.
Fauna
Flagship species: Panther, Chinkara, Hyena and Jackal.
Other species: Tiger, Sambar, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Cheetal, Leopard, Nilgai, Wolf etc.
Getting there
The nearest airport is at Jaipur, about 212km away. The closest railway station is at Gangapur City
(about 54km away). From the Gangapur railhead the tourist can easily hire vehicles to reach
Keladevi Wildlife Sanctuary. Several state roads link the sanctuary with Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur
(60km) and Delhi (302km).
Tourist Information
Many staying options are available around the sanctuary. The best way to explore the forest is by
gypsy or jeep safari, which is allowed only during the day light. Unique thing about Keladevi
Sanctuary is that in summer it turns ash-grey in colour, in monsoon it changes to lush green and
after the monsoon the forest transforms to a bright straw colour.
Besides safaris, natural trail and trekking are also important tourist activities. Keladevi temple,
Mohanji Temple, Kalyanji Temple, Mandrayal Fort, Ramathra Fort, Bhanwar Vilas Palace, City
Palace, etc are some of the famous places of interest in and around Keladevi Sanctuary.
