KHOKHAN WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Khokhan Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the state of Himachal Pradesh, approximately 19km away
from Kullu. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1954, under the Wildlife Protection Act, Punjab.
Flora
Oak, Fir, Deodar, Chir and different species of herbs.
Fauna
Flagship species: Himalayan Black Bear (endangered species).
Other species: Leopard, Himalayan Yellow Throated Marten, Porcupine, Himalayan Tahr, Musk Deer,
Goral, Flying Squirrel, Langur, etc.
Avian Fauna
Western Tragopan, Cheer Pheasant, Monal, Chakor, Kaleej, Spotted Duck, Stripped Parrot, Hornbill,
etc.
Getting there
Khokhan Wildlife Sanctuary is well connected with different towns and cities of the state through
good network of roads. The closest major bus terminals are at Pathankot, Shimla, Chandigarh and
Delhi. By road, Chandigarh is about 278 km away and Shimla is approximately 270 km away.
The nearest railway stations are at Jogindernagar (125km), Shimla (267km) and Chandigarh (270km).
The nearest airport to the sanctuary is at Bhunthar about 120km off the Kullu city.
Tourist Information
Staying option within the sanctuary is very limited. One can find different standard lodging options in
the towns situated around the sanctuary.
Some of the important tourist spots around the sanctuary are Raghunath Temple, Bhrigu Lake and
Dev Bhumi (Kullu) and others.
