KINNERASANI WILDLIFE SANCTURY

Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled along the right bank of the River Kinnerasani in Andhra Pradesh state. The sanctuary derives its name from this river itself. It is situated about 25km from Bhadrachalam city and about 15km from Kothagudem city. Kinnerasani sanctuary is also part of the Dandakaranya forests.

Flora
Forest type: arid teak forests, southern arid mixed deciduous forests, dry bamboo brakes and grasslands.
Trees: Teak, Yepi, Bamboo, Tengu, Bandaru, Neem, Amla, Sommi Thandra, Yegissa, etc.

Fauna
Mammals: Tiger, Cheetal, Panthers, Black Bucks, Sloth Bear, Chousingha, Gaurs, Sambar, Cobra, Python, Vipers, Chameleons, Iguanas, Large Back scorpions, etc.

Avian Fauna
Jungle Fowl, Partridges, Doves, Open bill stork, Quails, Teals, Nuktas, Spoonbills, etc.

Getting There
Bhadrachalam (about 25km away) is the closest railway station. The nearest airport is in Hyderabad. Kinnerasani is the nearest chief transport centre from where one can easily get private and APSRTC buses, cars and taxis to reach Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary.

Tourist Information
Forest rest houses at Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam and Paloncha offer quality staying facilities. One can opt to stay in the tourist guest house of the APTDC, located near the Kinnerasani dam. Different budget guest houses, lodges and hotels are also available in the Paloncha town.

Kinnerasani dam, Viswanatha Satyanarayana reservoir and a lake, located inside the sanctuary, are the ideal spots to view the wildlife. An Eco Park located close to the Kinnerasani dam; Environmental Education Centre and a celebration home glass-guesthouse are worth visiting. Watch towers erected at different locations in the sanctuary offer panoramic view of the forest.
