Mahatma Gandhi English Essay School Students

Mahatma Gandhi is the man I admire the most. Gandhiji was conferred the title 'Mahatma' for his glorious works and achievements. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on 2nd October 1869, at Porbondor in Gujarat.

After finishing his basic education in India he went to study law in England. After acquiring his degree in Law he came back to India and began his first practice in Mumbai High Court. After sometime he went to South Africa to practice law. There, he, along with the South African natives, started a new type of non-violence movement, under the name Satyagraha, to fight against the tyranny of the Europeans.

When he came back to India, he introduced the similar type of non-violence revolution to fight against the British rule in India. Later this movement came to be known as Non-cooperation Movement (1921) and Quit India Movement (1942). With his famous clarion call "do or die" he soon became one of the prominent leaders of the freedom fighters in India.

India gained her independence under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi on 15th August, 1947. Soon after the independence, Gandhiji was shot dead by a young man named Nathuram Godse, on 30th January 1948. Though he is dead, he is still alive among the people through his inspirational messages and novel works. Mahatma Gandhi is loved and respected not only by the people of India but also by many people around the world.
