Mouling National Park is situated in Arunachal Pradesh. It ranges from Upper Siang district to parts
of East Siang and West Siang district. The total area coverage of the park is approximately 281 sq
km.
About the park
The area was deemed a national park in the year 1986. The surrounding regions of the park are
inhabited by Adis and Idu Mishimis. The park derives its name from the close-by mountain peak
which is known as Mouling peak. Mouling in Adi means red blood or red poison, which actually is
referred to red latex that is obtained from some special tree species that are available locally in the
forest area. The park is situated between 400 meters to over 3000 metres altitude.
Fauna
The important fauna species of the park are red panda, hog deer, tiger, wild buffalo, panther,
barking deer, elephant, python, sambar, goral and clouded bear. The park is quite renowned for its
three varieties of goat antelopes – coral, serow and takin.
Flora
Tropical forests are found at the lower elevations of the area and moist-temperate forest at the
higher altitude. The prominent flora species here include Betula, cythea, Magnolea, calamus,
Griffithia, Griffithia, etc.
How to reach there
Roing is the prime entry point to the Upper Dibang Valley District. It is well connected to Tinsukia
and Dibrugarh in Assam. The closest airport and the bus stand are at Yingkiong, which is about 30 km
away from the park. The nearby railhead is at Murkongselek. Visitors can hire a jeep, taxi or bus from
these places to reach the park.
General tips
The circuit house at Jengging offers quality accommodation facility to the visitors. One can also opt
for the inspection bungalow and the circuit house at Yingkiong for lodging. Prior booking is required
for lodging in all these places. The tourists can also participate in activities like hiking, angling and
trekking that are offered in the park.
