Nestled along the south-eastern border of Kota, Rajasthan, Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve, is
regarded as the third largest tiger reserve of the country. The reserve is spread over four districts of
Rajasthan, namely -Kota, Jhalawar, Chittorgarh and Bundi. It comprises the wildlife national parks
–Jawahar, Darrah, Sagar and Chambal. Previously, this reserve area was a tiger hunting reserve of
the Maharaja of Kota.

Flora
Mainly consist of medicinal and botanical plants.
Wildlife
Tigers, Leopards, Wolves, Chinkaras, Sloth Bears and different species of birds and reptiles.
During the initial stages of if creation, the reserve never had a tiger population of its own. The big
cats from the Ranthambhore reserve often strayed into the Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve for
breeding. The reserve was therefore, mainly viewed as an extension of Ranthambhore Tiger
Reserve’s core area.
However, today MHTR has its own tiger population. As per the recent tiger census report there are
about 46 to 50 tigers in the area.
Getting there
The closest airport to the reserve is the Sanganer Airport in Jaipur (about 245 km away). The
nearest bus terminal and railway station are at Kota. From Kota one can hire private vehicles, cabs
or jeeps to reach MHTR.
Tourist information
There are almost no staying facilities for the tourists within the reserve. The visitors can find hotels,
resorts, lodges and government rest houses at Kota which is approximately 50 km away.
Sorsan Grasslands, Keshoraipatan, Badoli temples, Bhainsrodgrah fort, Gagron fort, Jhalarapatan,
Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary, etc. are some of the famous places of visit for the tourists around the
Mukundara Hills reserve.
