NARSINGHGARH WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Narsinghgarh wildlife sanctuary is located on the northern boundary of the Malwa Plateau in Madhya Pradesh. It was setup in 1978 under Forest Division Rajgarh Social Forestry. River Kali Sindh lies to the western edge of the sanctuary and river Parbati lies to the eastern edge. The sanctuary because of its beauty is popularly referred to as the "Kashmir of Malwa Plateau".

Teak, Dhawda, Saja, Khair, Karonda, Bhaeda, Karghai, Arjun, Lendia, Chandan, etc.

Fauna
Leopard, Chital, Nilgai, Sambhar, Wild Boar, Crocodile, Bhedki, etc.

Avian Fauna
Dhoodh Raj, Peacock, jungle fowl, parrot and many other bird species. The sanctuary is the ideal habitat for peacocks.

How To Reach
Narsinghgarh wildlife sanctuary is situated on the National Highway 12. The nearest railway stations are located at Bhopal (approx. 70 km) and Biora (approx. 35 km). Closest airport is located in Bhopal. Regular bus service is available from the Narsinghgarh Bus Station. The sanctuary can also be approached from Kota (about 278 km) and Indore (221 km).

Tourist Information
Visitors to the sanctuary can find proper accommodation at the Narsinghgarh forest rest house. Safari rides, bird viewing, nature photography and trekking are popular activities of the tourists. Petrol and diesel vehicles that are not more than five years are allowed for safari rides inside the sanctuary. The Chidikhon Tank, situated at the centre of the reserve, is the best place to spot different migratory birds. During safari rides always follow the designated path and do not venture into unknown paths. Carry a powerful binocular for viewing the birds and animals from a safe distance. Always maintain silence and avoid honking or making any loud noise.
Narsinghgarh Fort, Chhota Mahadev, Bada Mahadev, Soulah Khamb, Haji Wali Dargah, etc. are popular tourist destinations around the sanctuary. The visitors can also visit the natural caves within the reserve which consist of pre-historic red and white wall paintings.
