NAWABGANJ BIRDS SANCTUARY
Nawabganj Birds Sanctuary is situated over a shallow lake in Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh. The
sanctuary is nearly 35 km away from the city of Lucknow. It was gazetted a wildlife sanctuary in the
year 1984.

Fauna
Water snakes, viper, cobra, ratsnake, krait and turtle.
Avian Fauna
Major attraction: Woodpecker and parakeet.
Migratory birds: Greylag Goose, Cotton teal, Pintail, Gadwall, Red Crested pochard, Shoveller, Mallard and Coot
Resident birds: Sarus crane, Painted Stork, Spotbill, Peacock, Dabchick, White necked stork, Whistling teal, Pigeon, Purple moorhen, Bronze winged Jacana, Tern vulture, Bee eater, Lapwing and Indian roller.
How To Reach There
Nawabganj Sanctuary is located on the Kanpur-Lucknow highway and can be easily approached from Kanpur and Lucknow. Amuasi Airport in Lucknow, about 35 km away is the nearest aerodrome to Nawabganj Birds Sanctuary. Kanpur railway station (about 45 km) and Lucknow railway station (around 55 km) are the closest railway stations. One can easily get buses and taxis from these terminals.
Tourist Information
The tourists can avail standard accommodation at a guesthouse situated inside the wildlife sanctuary. UP Tourism rest houses and Nawabganj Sanctuary Campus are other staying options for the visitors. Several motels, bistros and restaurants are also located around the sanctuary. Picnic, bird viewing and wildlife photography are major tourist activities in the sanctuary. Avoid flash photography as it can disturb the birds. Always remain calm during the bird sighting excursions and carry a good bird guide and a powerful binocular or camera. Littering and making loud noises are strictly prohibited. It is always advisable to visit the sanctuary in groups. Lakes and the wetlands of Nawabganj Sanctuary are the best places to spot different species of birds. For any information and arrangement the visitors can contact the Wildlife Warden, Nawabganj Sanctuary, stationed at Unnao.
