Pabha Wildlife Sanctury
Pabha Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the state of Assam near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh state
border. It was established to preserve the Asiatic Water Buffalo population of the region.
Fauna
Flagship species: Asiatic Water Buffalo (Wild Water Buffalo).
Other species: Hoolock Gibbon, One-horned Rhinos, Golden Langur, Pygmy Hog, etc.
Avian Fauna
Bengal Florican, jungle fowl, peacock, owl, myna, etc.
Getting there
The closest airport and railway station to Pabha Wildlife Sanctuary are located in Guwahati. The
major transport centre is at Lakhimpur (about 87km from Guwahati). Lakhimpur is well connected
with proper taxi and bus services with Guwahati.
Tourist Information
Several staying options are available for tourists around the sanctuary. Quality hotels and rest
houses are available at Lakhimpur and Guwahati. Tourists are recommended not to visit Pabha
sanctuary during the monsoon as almost all the forest tracks remain muddy and slippery as a result
of heavy rain.
For any information on Pabha sanctuary, visitors can contact the Chief Forest Conservator of Assam,
stationed at Guwahati. Trekking is the best way to spot the wild animals and the birds of the
sanctuary. While going for trekking always wear comfortable clothes and shoes and carry all your
trekking gears. Also carry bird guide book to identify different species of avian fauna. Do carry your
own provisions for water and food.
Milory, Padumoni temple and Shiva temple are some of the nearby places of interest worth visiting.
