PARASNATH WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Parasnath Wildlife Sanctuary is situated along the Parasnath hill in the state of Jharkhand. The sanctuary is named after Lord Pashwanath, the 23rd Jain Tirthankar, who attained nirvana on the Parasnath hill.

Notification: Wildlife Sanctuary 1971.

Flora
Forest type: mixed deciduous forests.
Flora species: ferns, mosses and lichens.

Fauna
Leopard, Sambar, tiger, Sloth Bear, Barking Deer, Panthers, Mongoose, Hyena, Great Indian Black Cobra, Monitor Lizard, Chameleons, Flying Lizard, Russell’s Wiper and many more.

Avian Fauna
No bird species are found inside the sanctuary as there are no water bodies situated inside the forest area.

Getting there
The closest railway station and bus terminal are located at Parasnath town which is about 16 km away. Another nearby railway station to Parasnath Wildlife Sanctuary is at Girdih. GT Road is connected with Parasnath sanctuary through state highways and link road. The nearest airport is in Ranchi, approximately 160 km away. From Ranchi airport the tourists can hire any private vehicle to reach the sanctuary.

Tourist Information
Forest Rest House at Madhuban and Dumri offer comfortable and standard accommodation facilities. One can also opt to stay in the circuit house at Parasnath. Jain temples on the Parasnath Hills, Usri River, Khandoli water reservoir, Madhuwan and Harihar Dham, Jharkhandi Dham, etc are some of the renowned tourist spots in and around Parasnath sanctuary.
