Pilibhit Tiger Reserve is spread across the Lakhimpur Kheri district, Bahraich district and
Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh. It is nestled along the ‘terai’ plains and the foothills of the
Himalayas. River Ghaghara and River Sharda form its southwest boundary and in the north-east
it is bounded by River Sharda.

Flora
Vegetation: Terai-Duar savanna forest and grasslands.
Plants: Ber, Sal, Aonla, Bakayan, Sissoo, Khair, Rohini, Dhak, Harad, etc.
Fauna
Leopard, Tiger, Hispid hare, Swamp deer, Elephant, Gharials, Common krait, Indian marsh
crocodiles, cobra, monitor lizard, gharials, etc.
According to the recent tiger counting, there are about 36 tigers in the reserve.
Avian Fauna
Bengal floricans, Vulture, Woodpeckers, White-crested laughing-thrush,Cormorants, Peacock,
Partridges, Parakeets, Seagulls, etc.
Getting there
The closest airports are at Lucknow (250 km) and Delhi (264 km). Pilibhit Tiger Reserve is
well connected by roads to Delhi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur and other important
towns and cities in the country through regular bus services that are operated by the Uttar
Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. Closest bus terminal and railhead are located at
Pilibhit. The other railheads are situated at Bisalpur and Puranpur.
Tourist information
Tourist lodges, forest rest houses and log huts are available for accommodation within the
reserve at Chuka, Bankatti, Mala, etc. Alternatively, visitors can choose to stay in hotels and
guesthouses at Bareilly and Pilibhit.
The reserve is open in the monsoon season. However, tourists are advised to avoid making a
trip during this time as heavy rains can spoil their expeditions.
