PURNA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Purna Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at Dangs district of Gujarat. The sanctuary gets its name from the river Purna that flows through it. Along with the Vansda National Park, the Purna sanctuary is the only Protected Area in the entire South Gujarat. There are many tribal settlements within the sanctuary. 'Mahal' is the key tribal village in the area.

Flora
Forest type: moist teak forest, moist mixed deciduous forest and bamboo brakes
Trees: timru, khair, bamboo, tanachh, kalam, haldu, sadad, chopadi bondara, kadaya, salai, etc.

Fauna Leopard, four-horned antelope, barking deer, Indian civet cat, bonnet macaque, mongoose, Indian porcupine, flying squirrel, monitor lizards, python, etc.

Avian Fauna Common grey hornbill, barbets, grey jungle fowls, shrikes, raptors, woodpeckers, bee-eaters, cloropsis, flycatchers and others.

Getting there
The nearest bus and train terminus to Purna Wildlife Sanctuary is at Vyara, about 20km away. The closest airports are at Ahmedabad (400km) and Surat (130km).

Tourist Information
Staying options within the sanctuary are very few. A forest rest house on the banks of Purna River and a campsite offer quality accommodation facilities. More accommodation options are available at Saputara, Vyara and Surat.
There are no eating options inside the sanctuary. So it is advisable to carry your own provision for food and water. Littering, honking, smoking, drinking alcohol, hunting, feeding and teasing of animals are strictly prohibited. For any arrangement or information the visitors can contact the Deputy Conservator of Forests, stationed at Dang.
Gira Waterfall Saputara, Botanical Garden at Waghai, Vanil Udyog at Navtad Bamboo article, etc. are some of the famous places of interest around the sanctuary.
