RAIGANJ WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal. It is
located about 4 km away from the Raiganj town. The sanctuary is also referred to as Kulik Bird
Sanctuary as the river Kulik flows through the sanctuary. It is believed to be the second largest
bird sanctuary in entire Asia. Kulik Bird Sanctuary is ‘U’ shaped.
Notifications : Established as Wildlife Sanctuary in 1985.

Sisoo, Jarul, eucalyptus, kadam, Minigiri, Sal, Khair, Simul, Akashmoni, Siris and Lali.
Wildlife
Asian Openbill Stork is the flagship species of Kulik Bird Sanctuary. Resident birds: kites, drongoes, woodpeckers, owl, flycatchers, bulbul, dove sparrow, kingfisher, etc.
Migratory birds: Black crowned night heron, open-bill storks, egrets, Indian Shag, pond heron, little cormorants and many more.
Getting there
Nearest airport is the Bagdogra airport (Siliguri), about 176 km away. Dalkola railway station (about 53 km away) is the closest railhead. Raiganj railway station is the closest railway station and is well linked with the Sealdah railway station. NH-34 passes close to Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuary. Regular buses to Raiganj are available from Kolkata (Dharamtala terminal). One can also hire car from Siliguri (about 181 km away) to reach Raiganj.
Tourist tips
The Raiganj Tourist Lodge, managed by the WBTDC, located close to Kulik Bird Sanctuary offers quality accommodation to the tourists. Besides this, there are many other lodges inside the sanctuary providing good lodging facilities to visitors with different budgets. Bird watching is the prime tourist activities in Kulik Bird Sanctuary. Carry good quality binoculars for better viewing of the birds. While bird sighting do not make any kind of noises. The tourists are advised to wear dark green or olive green clothes, so that they can easily get mixed with surrounding environment.
