RAKSHAM CHITKUL WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Located in the state of Himachal Pradesh, Raksham Chitkul Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled along the
upper elevations of the Himalayan Mountain range. It is situated close to the Kinnuar-Kailash peak.
The sanctuary was formed in the year 1962 and is also referred to as Sangla Valley Wild Life

Tourists visiting the sanctuary can avail accommodation at the PWD rest house with prior bookings.
Trekking, wildlife spotting and photography are major tourist activities in the area. There are
different adventurous trekking routes in this protected reserve. Lamkhanga Pass which connects
Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand region is the most famous of all.br
The tourists can visit the different religious temples that are located around the sanctuary. Chitkul,
the last Indian village on the Indo-Tibetan border, is another important tourist centre located close
to the Sanctuary. The area of Sangla Valley Wild Life Sanctuary that is situated at an elevation of
2,000m above sea level is a difficult terrain to reach and it is bitterly cold.brbr
