RANIPUR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Ranipur Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled at the base of the Siwalik Mountain and lower Himalayan ranges in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The sanctuary is named after the Ranipur town where it is located.

Flora
Forest type: Alluvial savannah forest, southern arid mixed deciduous forest, mangrove, arid deciduous scrub and savanna.
Trees and plants: Ceylon Iron Wood, Poison Nut, Mountain Larkspur, Oil cake tree, Stilted Mangrove, White Mangrove, etc.

Fauna
Tiger, Black Buck, Sloth Bear, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Leopard, Indian Bison, crocodiles, monitor lizards, Cobra, Python and others.

Avian Fauna
Flamingo, Painted Storks, Grey Herons, White Ibis, Spoon Bills, Reef Herons, River Tern, Open Billed Storks, etc.

Getting there
The closest domestic airport is in Allahabad (about 150km) and the closest international airport is in Lucknow (nearly 350km).
The nearest bus terminus and railhead is located at Chitrakoot, about 25km away. Allahabad is the nearest major railway station for long distance express trains.
Banda, located at a distance of about 80km is another important transport centre. From here one can easily get regular transport to Chauri, Manikpur and Ranipur villages.

Tourist Information
Tourists can find accommodation at rest houses at Manikpur, Ranipur, Chauri and Markundi villages that are located in the surroundings of the Ranipur Wildlife Sanctuary. Alternatively one can find convenient and standard staying options at the nearby Karvi town.
Trekking, elephant and jeep safaris are popular tourist activities in Ranipur Sanctuary. Forest trail safaris and night safaris are organized for the adventurous naturalists. The Ranipur Range Office monitors the safari rides and provides visitors with necessary guides and vehicles. For reservation or any other necessary information the tourists may contact the Divisional Forest Officer of the Bamda Forest Division at Banda or the Wildlife Warden stationed at Karvi.
