RATANMAHAL SLOTH BEAR SANCTUARY
Located in the Dahod district of Gujarat, Ratanmahal Sloth Bear Sanctuary is home to a large
population of sloth bear. It lies in the proximity of the Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat state border.

Flora
Forest type: mixed deciduous forests, dry teak forests and dry bamboo brakes.
Trees: Teak, sadad, dudhlo, amla, timru, dhavdo, bamboo, jamun, mahuda, kakadiyo, ber, khakhro,
etc.
Fauna
Flagship species: Sloth bear
Other species: leopard, four-horned antelope, Mongoose, Civet cat, Porcupine, Flap-shell turtle, Star
tortoise, Cobra, Saw-scaled viper, Termite hill gecko, etc.
Avian Fauna
Grey jungle fowl, Alexandrine parakeet, quail, partridge, crested serpent eagle, green pigeon,
hoopoe, tailor bird, lesser golden-backed woodpecker, etc.
Getting there
The closest bus terminal to Ratanmahal Sloth Bear Sanctuary is at Devgadh Baria, approximately
42km. The nearest airports are at Vadodara (170km) and Ahmedabad (250km). The nearest
railheads are located at Dahod (70km) and Godhra (85km).
Tourist Information
The visitors can find accommodation at the Forest Rest Houses at Pipargota and Kanjeta. There are
better staying options at Dahod. Tent accommodations are possible within the sanctuary with prior
intimation to the forest authorities.
Safari rides, wildlife photography and nature trail are popular tourist activities here. Keep save
distance from the sloth bears as they can be more dangerous than the leopards. During your safari
rides alight from your vehicles only when your guide instructs you.
Pavagadh Fort, Nagina Masjid, Champaner Fort, Shiv temple on Ratanmahal hilltop and Mahakali
temple are some nearby places of interest that the visitors can explore.
