SRI LANKA MALLESWARA SANCTUARY
Sri Lanka Malleswara Sanctuary is located at the Cuddapah District of Andhra Pradesh. Its
total area coverage is approximately 464.42 sq km.
Flora
Arid deciduous mixed thorn forests and evergreen pastures are the endemic vegetation cover of
the region. Red sander, a rare flora species, is also found here.
Fauna
Panther, Chowsingha, Cheetal, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Sambar, Chinkara, Nilgai, Fox, etc.
Avian Fauna
Sri Lanka Malleswara Sanctuary is the last home of the Jordan's Courser, a highly endangered
bird species.
Getting there
The closest airport to the sanctuary is at Hyderabad. The nearest railhead and bus terminal is
located 60 km away at Cuddapah.
Tourist information
The incoming visitors can find comfortable lodgings in the forest rest house at Cuddapah and
Siddavatam. Good range of lodges and hotels are also available at Cuddapah.
The sanctuary is located in hilly area with steep slopes and gorges. Hence the tourists are
advised to wear good quality boots while going for excursions and trekking in the forest. Wear
light-cotton clothes, as the humidity here is generally on the higher side.
Swimming inside the sanctuary, carrying pets, alcoholic drinks, arms and inflammable items
inside the park is strictly prohibited. Do not shout, play the radio or transistors loudly or use
flash in photography. These can scare and agitate the wild animals. The tourists need to display
their ID proofs while entering the park.
