SRI VENKATESWARA NATIONAL PARK

Sri Venkateswara National Park is spread across the two different districts of Andhra Pradesh–Cuddapah and Chittoor. It is named after the Lord Venkateshwara of Tirupati, the 'Lord of Seven Hills.' This park was established in the year 1989. (This park also comes under wildlife sanctuary.)

Flora
Mixtures of arid and moist deciduous forests are the prime vegetation covers in the region. The important flora species are Red Sanders, Tamba Jalari, Sandalwood, Tella Karakkaya and Gymnosperm.

Fauna
Mammals: Tiger, panther, black buck, mongoose, civet cat, sloth bear, spotted deer, bison, wolf, fox, chowsingha, sambar, tree Shrew, etc.
Reptiles: rare golden gecko, flying lizard, python, cobra, etc.

Avian Fauna Jungle fowl, partridges, peacock, Large Hawk-Cuckoo, Loten's Sunbird, Indian Scimitar Babbler and many more.

Getting there
The nearest railhead and airport is at Tirupat, about 10 km away. The closest railway station is at Hyderabad. The nearest major bus terminals are located at Chennai, Tamil Nadu (about 160 km away) and Tirupati.

Tourist information
Accommodation can be availed at the Forest rest houses at Rajampet, Tirupati, Talakona and Bakarapet. Special permission has to be obtained from the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department for lodging in the forest bungalow located inside the sanctuary.
Sri Venkateswara National Park is an ideal location for trekking. The exotic waterfalls, namely Gundalakona, Talakona and Gunjana are must-see tourist spots within the sanctuary. Tourists are advised to wear khaki, olive-green or dark green attires that can easily blend with the natural surroundings. Avoid wearing perfumes and using flash while photographing. This may agitate the animals. Smoking or lighting of any sort of fire outside the rest houses or lodging complexes are strictly prohibited.
