SUNABEDA TIGER RESERVE - Odisha

Nestled on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border in Odisha, Sunabeda Tiger Reserve is an important habitat of the barasinghas. It is also a division of the Northern dry deciduous forests eco-region.

Flora
Vegetation cover: Dry deciduous forests
Plants: Teak, Khumbi, Kendu, Genduli, Salia, Bamboo, Piasal, Mahul, Dhaura, Cisoo, Char, etc.

Fauna
Tiger, Leopard, Barasingha, Barking Deer, Sambar Deer, Porcupine, Wild Boar, Buffalo, Chital, Langur, Rhesus Monkey, etc.
As per the 2004 tiger census, there are about 36 tigers in Sunabeda Tiger Reserve.

Avian Fauna
Green Pigeon, Peafowl, Red Jungle Fowl, Dabchick, Snake Bird, Open Billed Strok, Hill Myna, etc.

Getting there
The closest railway station is at Kharira Road which lies on the Vijayanagaram line of Southern Eastern Railway. Raipur airport (120 km) is the nearest airport. The tiger reserve is well connected through roads with Nuapada which in turn is 27 km away from Bharuamunda, 44 km away from Barkote and 9 km away from Tanwat.

Tourist Information
Rest houses and circuit houses within the reserve can be availed for accommodation. Alternatively, one can also opt to stay at different departments and bungalows, maintained by the state government.
Archaeological sites of Giribaman, the mystic caves of Ranimuhas, glorious waterfalls, fort of Jumlagarh and the bird observation points at Jalki and Raital Bandh are some of the places of attraction in and around the reserve.
Most part of the forest area is frequented by Maoists. Hence the tourists are advised not to venture into any unknown territories. They should always move within the prescribed path designated by the forest officials.
