Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is situated in the Vidharba region of the Chandrapur district in
Maharashtra. The reserve is also popularly referred to as ‘The Jewel of Vidharba’.
About the park
It is named after the God Taru, the deity of the local adivasis. He is worshipped as 'Tadoba'. The
reserve comprises of Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary (approximately 509 sq km) and Tadoba National
Park (about 116.54 sq km).
Notifications: National Park in 1955; Tiger Reserve in 1995.

Leopard, Wild dog, Sloth bear, Indian Bison, Flying Squirrel, Ratel, Blue Bull, Barking Deer, etc.
Tigers are the prime attraction of tourists. The tiger conservation programme of the reserve has
been quite successful in recent years. It is for this reason Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is believed
to be the state’s one of the best tiger reserve with maximum tiger sightings.
Getting there
The nearest bus terminals are at Chimur (almost 32km away) and Chandrapur (about 45km far). The
closest railway station is at Chandrapur. Nagpur airport is the nearby airport located about 205km
away.
Tourist tips
Accommodation for the tourists is available at the forest rest houses, dormitories, tents and Youth
Hostel located at Tadoba. One can also find lodging in Rest House at Kolsa. Reservation for
accommodation can be made with Field Director and the Conservator of Forest.
Camping, nature trails, Jungle Safaris and Elephant rides are popular tourist activities. Visitors are
allowed to take their private vehicles inside the reserve. Forest minibus can also be hired for jungle
safaris. However, it is mandatory for every vehicle to be escorted by an official guide. Guides can be
hired at the Moharli gate, Zari gate and Navegaon gate. Two or three-wheelers are not allowed
inside the park.
