TUNDAH WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Tundah Wildlife Sanctuary is linked to the Kugti Sanctuary through a forest corridor in the east. This
sanctuary is situated at the intersection of River Ravi and Tundah nalla, Himachal Pradesh. It was
established in the year 1975.
Flora
Vegetation covers: alpine pastures western mixed coniferous forest, moist deodar forest and moist
temperate deciduous forest.
Trees and plants: Deodar, Kail, Robinia, Poplar, Fir, Walnut, Sprucem and numerous medicinal plants.
Fauna
Leopard, langur, ibex, musk deer, Himalayan fox, Himalayan shrew, rhesus macaque, Himalayan
tahr, Indian bush rat, jackal, common giant flying squirrel, barking deer and others
Avian Fauna
Pheasants, barbet >Megalaima rubricapilla, red-vented bulbul >Pycnonotus cafer, Indian blue robin >
Erithacus brunneus, crested bunting >Melophus lathami, white eyed buzzard >Butastur teesa, green
bee eater >Merops orientalis, etc
How to get there
Gaggal airport at Dharamshala (about 53 km away) is the closest airport. Nurpur road railway station
Junction about 70 km is the nearest railway station.
The road route to Tundah Wildlife Sanctuary from Delhi is: Delhi-Pathankot-Chamba–Durgathi-trek
(approximately 15 km) to the sanctuary. Alternative route is: Shimla-Chamba-Durgathi-trek to the
Tundah sanctuary.
Tourist information
One rest house located within the sanctuary and the other on the outskirt of the forest are available
for accommodation with prior bookings. Smoking, flash photography and carrying pets inside the
forest are prohibited.
The sanctuary is situated around 30 km from Bharmour is the base for the Manimahesh Yatra.
Numerous trekking trails also initiate from this point.
Tundah sanctuary is also quite renowned for its proximity to the Kali Cho Pass and Banni Mata
Mandir (situated at Banni Village). The Kali Cho Pass is regarded as one of the toughest mountain
passes of Himachal Pradesh.
