VANSDA NATIONAL PARK – Gujarat

Nestled along Western Ghats of Sahyadri range, Vansda National Park is spread over an area of about 24 sq km only. The park is located in the Navsari District of Gujarat.

About the park
The park is situated along the banks of Ambika River. It derives its name from a nearby town called Vansda. Vansda is situated approximately 80 km away from the park and is the important commercial point for the adjoining areas. The park was declared a national park in the year 1979.

Fauna
Leopard, chital, chausinga, hyena, common palm civet, Indian civet, macaque, barking deer, hanuman langur, flying squirrel, Indian flying fox, great Indian squirrel, etc. form the fauna world of the region.

Avian fauna
The park is home to grey hornbill, paradise flycatcher, racket-tailed drongo, forest spotted owlet, emerald dove, etc.

Flora
The prominent flora species of the park include teak, bamboo, shimlo, dudhkod, haldu, khakhro, adad, chopadi, ambla, timru and so on.

Getting there
The adjoining airport to the park is at Surat (about 120 km away). The nearest railway station and the nearest bus terminals are at Waghai (almost 4 km away). NH-8 and Waghai-Vansda State Highway lies close to Vansda National Park.

Tourist information
Panchayat and PWD guest houses at Waghai and Vansda are available for lodging. One can also find accommodation at Forest Rest House at Waghai with prior booking. Resorts, luxury hotels and deluxe guest houses are available at Saputara, about 50 km. Kilad camp-site offers quality camping facilities to visitors.
There are two entrance points to the park located on the Vansda-Waghai State Highway. One is about 3 km from Waghai and the other entrance point is at Navtad village. The must-see places near the park are the conservation center, the Gira Falls, the botanical garden and hot spring water at Unai.
