YAGOUPOKPI LOKCHAO WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Yagoupokpi Lokchao Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled along the Indo-Myanmar border near Moreh in the state of Manipur. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary on 21 st March 1989. The eco-system of the sanctuary primarily comprises a combination of terrestrial and riverine eco-systems.

Flora
Vegetation covers: Tropical Moist Deciduous and Teak-Gurjan.
Trees and plants: Dipterocarpus tuberculatus, Melanorrhoea usitata, Dipterocarpus turbinatus,
Tectona grandis, Cedrella serrata, Cedrella toona, emblica officinalis, Bamboosa, Melaconna, etc.

Fauna
Hoolock Gibbon, leopard, Himalayan black bear, Serow, Common Otter, Slow Loris, Indian Civet cat, Cobra, Tortoise, Land Monitor Lizard, Python, Krait, etc.

Avian Fauna
Pheasants, hornbills, Manipur bush-quail, Burmese red turtle dove,  North Indian drongo, Dusky crag martin, Assam bamboo partridge, Alexandrine parakeet, Manipur crimson breasted pie wood pecker, etc.

Additional Information
Nearest airport, railway station and bus terminal are located at Imphal (approximately 100 km away), the capital city of Manipur. From Imphal one can hire buses or private vehicles to reach Yagoupokpi Lokchao Wildlife Sanctuary via NH-39.

Tourist Information
Tourists can find proper accommodation facilities at Transit Camp at Wildlife Office, Forest Rest House and Indo-Myanmar Trade Centre Rest House located at Moreh.
It is recommended that the tourists avoid visiting this sanctuary during the monsoon season as heavy rain and landslides can act as spoil sport. Trekking and nature trails are popular tourist activities here. While trekking refrain from venturing into unknown paths but always follow the paths assigned by the forest officials.
